CHICAGO – Hannover Fairs USA (HFUSA), the organizer of DOMOTEX USA, announced today the details for six ASID CEU-approved educational sessions offered from Wednesday, Feb. 5 to Friday, Feb. 7. Each ASID session will provide one CEU credit. DOMOTEX USA attendees will hear from top ASID members and interior design professionals, authors, speakers and educators who will provide curated, topical information to help designers build their skills set and immediately improve their practice.
Session One: Getting Organized and Streamlining Your Workflow – Powered by ASID will take place on Feb. 5 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. This presentation is specifically designed for interior designers who own an interior design business or work for a design firm. Phyllis Harbinger, FASID, CID, professional interior designer, author, speaker, educator and owner of the Greenwich, CT-based, award-winning Design Concepts/Interiors, LLC, will lead the presentation. Harbinger will show attendees how to load their tool box with the best implementation ingredients to help with organization and streamlining their workflow, processes and systems.
Session Two: Authenticity Through Customization: How Global Brands Set Themselves Apart – Powered by ASID will also take place on Feb. 5 from 1 – 2 p.m. This session will feature ASID New England President Eric Haydel who will discuss how a designer can stay true to their authentic style and translate it into a brand. During the presentation, Haydel will examine the roots of authenticity and brands that walk the talk to turn experiences into product. He will teach attendees how to audit their brand intentions to create memorable product for clients through customization relationships with manufacturers.
Session Three: Communicating with Clients: How Personality Profiles Affect Interaction – Powered by ASID is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Phyllis Harbinger will lead the session, which will help attendees learn to be versatile communicators, and message with clients and their teams more effectively. Harbinger will illustrate how to create successful and meaningful relationships by identifying and empathizing with different modes of communication.
Session Four: The Longevity Revolution: The Built Environment Comes of Age – Powered by ASID will also take place on Feb. 6 from 1 – 2 p.m. BJ Miller, FASID, CCIM and founder of Asheville, N.C.-based The Vision Group Studios, a commercial interior design firm, will lead the session. Miller combines a background in real estate, design, urban development and senior living to bring leadership, vision and cohesion to complex projects. During this session, she will explore built environment biohacks and emerging living models which allow more choice to accommodate the coming Longevity Revolution, the aging culture that is replacing the youth culture and is resulting in demand for products, services and buildings for seniors and assisted living.
Session Five: Nature for All: Nature Based Design and Social Justice – Powered by ASID is scheduled for Feb. 7 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Angelita Scott, Ph.D., Allied ASID, IDEC, Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Georgia Southern University and owner of Angie Scott Design, will lead the presentation. Scott will present case studies of design and construction projects making strides in support of “nature for all” and biophilic design, the inclusion of nature into design. Biophilic design has psychological and physiological implications to well-being, however, traditionally natural features are not incorporated into the built environment when budget is a critical factor.
Session Six: Materials That Matter – Powered by ASID will also take place on Feb. 7 from 1 – 2 p.m. Carolyn Ames Noble, ASID, WELL AP and Founder of Ames Design Studio, will lead the session which will help designers gain a deeper knowledge as they specify healthy and sustainable materials for future projects. Noble will explore the material’s role in human health in space. Physical samples will be examined in an interactive demonstration. At the culmination, Noble will survey innovative examples of healthy and sustainable materials in interior design.
